XFX 7950 GX2 XXX Graphics Card

XFX has again taken a already great nvidia product and mode it more special by overclocking it out of the box. The newest product in the XXX line from XFX is the 7950 GX2 XXX. This card is special sporting two GPUs and two PCBs together to form one single video card. The best runs at 1.55GHz on the memory and 570MHz for the cores. A full one GB of VRAM is available for the two cores.

Specs don't tell you the full story. XFX sent me a card to try out and it simply rocks. Comparing the 7950 to the ATI X1900 XTX the XFX 7950 GX2 XXX is simply faster in each and every benchmark ran.

There is a bit of confusion over the use of SLI with the 7950 GX2. The cards are designed to support SLI, but Nvidia has not activated SLI in the 7950 drivers at this time. the reasoning for that is debatable with Nvidia saying it simply wants to perfect the drivers. Others think the lack of support for SLI in the 7950 GX2 is Nvidia's way of giving the system builders such as Dell a bit more exclusivity on Quad SLI, which is what SLI on the 7950 GX2 is called. At the end of the day, the 7950 GX2 is hands down the fastest single card on the planet. To get more performance literally takes two cards. Nvidia says soon they will launch the drivers for Quad SLI on the 7950 GX2 and then a pair of the cards will be unbeatable, at least for a while. ATI is said to already be working on their response to the 7950 GX2. Ahhh, I love a good power war in the computer industry.
