WoW rages on with 9 million subscribers
Filed in archive MMORPG on July 25, 2007
Well, doh. Blizzard has just announced that World of warcraft busted the 9 million mark for worldwide subscribers. The figure will likely increase even more after The Burning Crusade, World of Warcraft's first expansion pack, launches in China in the near future.
Blizzard, amazingly, is happy about the news. According to Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment, "We're thrilled that gamers around the world have continued to embrace World of Warcraft so enthusiastically."
World of Warcraft has been on the sales warpath ever since it lauched, and especially since The Burning Crusade released this past January in North America. Aside from periodic subscriber number press releases, we're waiting to hear if Blizzard has anything special to announce at BlizzCon 2007 in Anaheim, California, set to start in under two weeks.
