Sportsbook: Betting on Virtual Events?

I occasionally put a few bucks down on a football game. Usually it's on the Indianapolis Colts (I'm a huge Peyton Manning fan) or the Tennessee Volunteers. If I stray beyond football in my betting, I bet on the Lady Vols Basketball team (Pat Summitt will make Tennessee a good governor one day).
I understand that many people see sports betting mostly as a way of making a few bucks. I've never thought of it that way. To me, sports betting is about pride in my team. I can't imaging betting against my team and I don't see much reason to bet on games I'm not really interested in.
I sometimes hear people talk about virtual world like they're really real. The test in my mind seems simple. When the bookies in Vegas and people like Sportsbook start giving odds spreads on games and events in Second Life, I'll be convinced that it's moving to a more tangible form of reality. Until them, it's a game – a fun game, but just a game…
