nVidia aquire AGEIA
Filed in archive Game Hardware by Jordan Grodecki on February 06, 2008

nVidia, hardware giant, and producers of what is currently the world's most powerful graphics card have announced that they are set to aquire the smaller software and hardware company AGEIA.
AGEIA produce PPUs, which are, in laymans terms, cards which aid with physics processing, however, they have not been massively popular and do not have a wide range of game support, and as such, are often ignored by even hardcore competitive gamers. They do produce a software based physics solution though, which is used in many console games, as well as PC games, although solutions like ATI's partnership with Havok are equally present on the market.
We expect that some hardware combining the physics tech with the GPUs will be the outcome of this buyout, which can only be good for the consumer, giving them all the capability of a dedicated PPU without the seperate card!
