Hellgate at CES

Filed in archive Game Previews on January 12, 2007

Gamespy has a hands on preview of Hellgate at CES playing as a hunter. Hunters are one of three classes made public by Flagship Studios and mostly uses guns plus technology and plays primarily in the first person viewpoint. The other classes are the Paladin, your typical hack and slash melee character and the Sorceress, your magic wielding archetype. Another nice feature of Hellgate London is the ability to be able to go online and play with your friends similar to an MMORPG, fees have nt been publicly announced if any.

Aside from Hellgate: London's single-player campaign, one of the game's most unique features is that it will also have an online mode essentially functioning as an MMORPG. Most of the game is built on randomly-generated instanced dungeons, and when you log in, you'll be sharing an economy, an auction house, and other things (like a friends list) with everyone else in your part of the world. Non-instanced areas should be able to handle from 50 to a few hundred people at a time; once a common area gets clogged, the area gets cloned as more players join. As Roper told us, Hellgate is being designed to keep groups of people together so they don't find themselves split up if an area gets too crowded.
