Atari Sells Driver to Ubisoft
Filed in archive Announcements on July 14, 2006
Atari has continued it's recent plans to raise money by selling assets by selling the Driver franchise, including all the IP and most of the assets and all personnel at developer Reflections to Ubisoft, in a deal worth around US$24 million.
"We are thrilled with this acquisition which will allow us to add a prestigious title to our catalogue and to enter into the driving games segment, one of the most important segments in the gaming industry. With more than 14 million units sold throughout the world, Driver® is one of the most successful brands in the history of video games. We look forward to leveraging the unique knowledge of the Ubisoft studios to ensure that Driver will be one of the leading brands of the next generation of consoles."
The deal is expected to close in the second quarter of the 2007 financial year.

Looks to me either to be one of two things, could be either they are consolidating their business to concentrate on their core product or they are experiencing more challenging times and tyring to raise some much needed cash.
